AI Visibility
AI Visibility tracks how AI assistants talk about your brand. You define the prompts your potential customers ask AI, and BlogSEO asks each of them on every tracked platform, stores the full answers, and measures whether you and your competitors are mentioned, which sources are cited, and how positively the answers speak about you.
What is tracked
- Platforms: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, plus Google's AI Overview and AI Mode. ChatGPT and Copilot answers come from the real consumer interfaces, so you see exactly what a user would see. Grok and Mistral are available as optional platform add-ons.
- Prompts: up to 30 per website, up to 500 characters each. Pausing a prompt keeps its history; deleting it deletes its answer history.
- Competitors: up to 10. They are detected in the same stored answers, so tracking competitors never costs extra.
How often is the data updated?
- A refresh cycle runs every day.
- Google AI Overview and AI Mode are re-checked daily for every prompt.
- AI assistant platforms are re-checked on a rolling 3-day cycle: about a third of your prompts get fresh answers each day, so the dashboard moves daily while every answer stays at most 3 days old.
- New prompts are picked up on the next daily cycle. ChatGPT and Copilot answers are scraped from the live interfaces and can land a little later than the other platforms.
- Volume is fetched on the next daily cycle for new prompts and refreshed for all prompts on the 1st of each month.
- Key sentiment drivers recompute automatically after each day's answers land.
The AI Visibility score
The headline score answers one question: out of all the AI answers collected in the selected period, what share mentioned your brand?
Every completed answer counts once: each prompt, on each platform, on each day it was checked, is one answer. If 200 answers were collected over the period and your brand appeared in 80 of them, your score is 40%. All platforms and days are pooled together, so a platform that refreshes daily naturally weighs more than one refreshed every 3 days: the score reflects the actual pool of answers, not a per-platform average.
A mention is an exact, case-insensitive match of your brand name in the answer text. The delta under the score compares the selected period with the period of the same length immediately before it.
What each metric means
- Mentions by platform: the number of answers on that platform that mentioned you during the period, and how many of those also cited your website as a source.
- Brand visibility over time: the mention rate per brand (you and each tracked competitor) over time, so you can see who is winning the conversation. Points are daily on the 7 and 30-day ranges, weekly on 3 and 6 months.
- Cited pages and top cited domains: every source the AI answers linked to. Pages are grouped across platforms, with the number of citations and the average position in the answer's source list. Domains show their share of all citations, with badges for your site and tracked competitors.
In the Prompts table:
- Visibility: the share of platforms whose latest answer for this prompt mentions you.
- Volume: the estimated global monthly volume of this question across AI assistants. Long conversational prompts often have no measurable volume; a dash means no data.
- Top competitor and Difficulty: the tracked competitor most often mentioned in this prompt's latest answers, and their mention rate as a 0-100 difficulty. High difficulty means a competitor firmly holds this prompt.
- Mentioned on: the platforms whose latest answer mentions you. A green tile means that answer also cites your website.
- Trend: your weekly mention rate on this prompt over the last 12 weeks.
Brand sentiment
Brand sentiment measures how positively AI answers speak about your brand when they mention it. Answers that do not mention you are never scored, so the metric reflects the tone of your actual mentions, not the overall tone of answers you are absent from.
How it is calculated: for every answer that mentions your brand, an AI model reads the passage around your mention and scores how your brand is presented on a 0-100 scale. 50 means you are mentioned neutrally (listed without judgement), above 50 means you are recommended or presented favorably, below 50 means the answer criticizes or discourages choosing you. The dashboard number is the average of these scores across all platforms and days in the selected period, with a comparison to the previous period. Competitor mentions are not sentiment-scored.
Key sentiment drivers
Sentiment tells you how positively AI talks about you; drivers tell you why. The card lists the recurring themes AI answers praise (Brand strengths) and the recurring caveats they raise (Areas for improvement).
How it is calculated: the most recent answers from the last 30 days that mention your brand (up to 40) are analyzed together by an AI model, which extracts up to 7 recurring strengths and 7 recurring weaknesses. The bar next to each driver shows how many of the analyzed answers express that theme, and hovering shows the exact count plus a verbatim quote from one of the answers. Drivers need at least 3 brand-mentioning answers before they appear, and refresh automatically as new answers land.
If the card says nothing recurring was found, your mentions carry no repeated praise or criticism yet: AI speaks about your brand without caveats.
How to choose your prompts
- Ask what buyers ask. The best prompts are questions where recommending providers is the natural answer: "best B2B growth marketing agency in the Netherlands", "which tool should I use for X". That is where being mentioned matters.
- Avoid definition questions. "What is growth marketing?" gets an explanation of a concept, not a list of providers; no brand will ever be mentioned organically. These prompts waste a slot.
- Keep most prompts unbranded. The point is discovering whether AI brings you up on its own. Keep 1 or 2 branded prompts ("your brand review", "alternatives to your brand") to monitor what AI says when people ask about you directly.
- Write in your customers' language. Prompts are asked exactly as written, so a Dutch business should ask in Dutch: that is what its buyers type.
- Be specific. A niche or geography ("for e-commerce", "in Belgium") makes answers more decisive and more comparable over time.
Frequently asked questions
How many prompts can I track at the same time?
Up to 30 prompts per website, each up to 500 characters. Pausing a prompt keeps its history and frees the slot's checks; deleting a prompt deletes its answer history permanently.
How many competitors can I track?
Up to 10. Competitors are detected in the same stored answers as your own brand, so adding or removing them never changes what the tracking costs.
Where do the answers come from?
ChatGPT and Copilot answers are collected from the real consumer interfaces, so they match what a user would see. The other platforms are queried through their official APIs with web search enabled, using each platform's current production model.
What is the difference between "mentioned" and "cited"?
Mentioned means your brand name appears in the answer text. Cited means the answer lists a page from your website among its sources. An answer can mention you without citing you, and vice versa; the green tiles in the Prompts table mark answers that do both.
Why do some prompts show no Volume?
Volume is an estimate of how often that exact question is asked across AI assistants each month. Long, conversational, or very niche prompts often have no measurable volume; that does not make them bad prompts, it just means the question is asked in many different phrasings.
Does tracking influence the AI models or my rankings?
No. Checks are read-only: BlogSEO asks the question and records the answer. Nothing is submitted, rated, or fed back to the platforms.
Can I add more platforms?
Grok and Mistral can be added from the "Add more" card on the Overview tab. They are billed as add-ons to your AI Visibility subscription and follow the same refresh cycle as the other AI assistant platforms.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. AI Visibility is a separate add-on subscription, cancellable from Settings → Billing at any time; platform add-ons can also be removed individually without cancelling the rest.
How brand mentions are detected
Mentions are exact, case-insensitive matches of your brand name in the answer text. The name comes from your Settings → General brand name, together with your domain name, and renaming your brand automatically updates the tracking. If your visibility looks off, contact support and we will adjust the terms used for your website.
